Free and contact-free delivery of homemade lasagna is available for families. Local volunteers (called Lasagna Chefs) prepare and delivers them free of charge to the doorstep of a local family who has requested a meal. Families can privately sign up to receive a meal (no questions asked). Once a family is matched with a Lasagna Chef, then a day and time for the delivery is arranged. Free community garden, planted in the early spring with crops available as they mature. The community is welcome pick any vegetables. A monthly box of food from Gleaner’s is available for Macomb County individuals and families. Families are welcomed to pick up food on a monthly basis. Prior to receiving groceries, the pick up sites are required to have participants sign in on a USDA required form declaring one of the following is true:
- In need of emergency food, OR
- A participant in an income based program such as WIC, CSFP, cash assistance (FIP) or food stamps (FAP), OR
- In a household where the income falls at or below the posted federal poverty guidelines (see table above).
The school is required to retain these signature forms for 3 years, however this information is not shared nor verified by Gleaners for accuracy.

A low-cost lunch ($2.50) and educational program are available for senior citizens on the third Thursday of the month. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. with lunch served at 12:00 noon. Canned and boxed food are available behind the counter at local DHHS offices for DHHS customers only.

Low-income persons (200% of poverty guidelines) are eligible for a once-a-month distribution of staple food items (pasta, canned fruits and vegetables, sometimes meat products - depending on what is available from the Federal government). Available from The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) through Macomb Community Action. Once registered, food is picked up at one of the 26 sites to which a client will be assigned. Qualified persons must first register through a Macomb Community Action Center:

Some of the sites do emergency food distribution and the once a month TEFAP distribution. Needy persons may be eligible to receive both emergency food (no income restrictions - only the need for food and be a Macomb County resident) and TEFAP. |
A ride to a food pantry, pick up of food for the client and delivery to their home (if the pantry allows this - many do not), a ride to the grocery store and help with shopping if needed, a volunteer to shop FOR the older or disabled adult, and delivery of the groceries to their home, short-term meal preparation, and one-time delivery of emergency food (no charge). A year's subscription for free delivery of groceries from a local store(s) is available for homebound individuals aged 18 and older who have a disability or a senior citizen aged over 60 years of age is available from the Shipt program through the office of Senior Services. To register, contact the Office of Senior Services, (586) 469-5228 from Monday through Friday between 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.
